Professor Yitzhak Brick (Chairman of the Board) is director general of JDC-ESHEL, the Association for the Planning and Development of Service for the Aged in Israel. has a Ph.D. in Social Policy, Planning and Administration from Brandeis University, Waltham, Mass., USA, and a BA in Sociology and Education from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. Since 1988 he has served as Director General of JDC-ESHEL. Between 1978-88, Dr. Brick served as the Deputy Director General at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs in charge of all social welfare functions at the Ministry. Dr. Brick is the President of the International Federation on Ageing (IFA), the Chairman of the National Council on Social Services, a board member of the Executive Committee of the International Council of Social Welfare (ICSW), and a board member and deputy chairman of the Center for Research and Study of Ageing at the University of Haifa.


Eli S. Feldman (Vice Chairman of the Board) is President and Chief Executive Officer of Metropolitan Jewish Health System (Metropolitan). Under his leadership, Metropolitan has expanded to nine business units and nearly 24 programs and services. Actively involved in state and national organizations, Mr. Feldman has received countless awards for his work on behalf of the chronically impaired, frail and elderly. Mr. Feldman is a cum laude graduate from C.W. Post College of Long Island University. He earned his MBA in hospital administration at Wagner College. Often asked to write about chronic and long-term care issues, Mr. Feldman is a frequent speaker at conferences that focus on aging and managed care issues.  Mr. Feldman' professional affiliations include:

  • Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Shmuel Lefkowitz (Board Member has served as Chairperson of Metropolitan Jewish Health System’s Board of Directors Since 2005. He is also a current board member of Elderplan; HomeFirst; Metropolitan Jewish Geriatric Center; Shorefront Jewish Geriatric Center; Menorah Home and Hospital; Shorefront Towers and the Institute for Applied Gerontology. Mr. Lefkowitz’s influence at Metropolitan can be seen most visibly at Metropolitan Jewish Hospice, where he championed the creation of the landmark “Halachic Living Will” program. Active in the community, Mr. Lefkowitz is Vice President of Community Services for Agudath Israel of America and the founder of the Southern Brooklyn Community Organization.


Eliot Fishman, Ph.D. (Board member), is Vice President, Research and Health Policy at MJHS and specializes in healthcare systems for people with disabilities and chronic illnesses, health care quality improvement, and Medicaid policy. He is the author, most notably, of Running in Place: How the Medicaid Model Falls Short and What to Do About It, and he has also written for the Washington Post and Health Affairs among other outlets. Prior to joining Metropolitan Jewish, he worked in the Health Care and Government Advocacy practices of Manatt, Phelps and Phillips and in the Institute for Medicare Practice at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, both in New York City. He received a Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale University in 1999 and a B.A. in Government from Harvard University in 1992. He is also on the Adjunct Faculty of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine's Department of Health Policy and the current President of the Young Israel Synagogue of Stamford, Connecticut.

Lawrence Normie (Executive Director of GeronTech) has a B.Sc. in pure and applied physics from University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology (UMIST) and M.Sc. in electrical and electronics engineering from University College London (UCL). Normie is a member of the UK Institute of Physics (registered as a Chartered Physicist) and is on the Chartered Scientist register of the UK Science Council. He is also registered with Association of Engineers in Israel. Before appointment as director of GeronTech, in June 1998, Normie was an independent industry and government consultant in technology transfer for nearly 8 years. Previous to that he worked in various engineering project management roles for the UK and Israeli defence industries. Normie consulted for five years to the Office of the Chief Scientist at Israeli Ministry of Industry and Commerce, where he was a reviewer of R&D grant proposals and inspector of high technology companies receiving government grants. Normie is a council member of the International Society of Gerontechnology (ISG) and a member of the Society’s publications committee. He is also a member of the Israel Society for Medical and Biological Engineering (ISMBE), the Association for the Advancement of Assistive Technology in Europe (AAATE). Normie is an editorial board member of Technology and Disability Journal and associate editor of Gerontechnology Journal. Normie is the Israeli member of ISO Technical Committees TC173 (Technical systems and aids for disabled or handicapped persons) and TC159 (Ergonomics).
