BALLER™ - Novel Foot-powered Wheelchair Locomotion System
About 25% of surviving stroke victims are left with hemiparesis or hemiplegia,
which confines them to a wheelchair. Standard manual wheelchairs require the
use of two hands to move in a controlled manner, so that the otherwise
recovered stroke survivor has no convenient way to move independently.
Current solutions to this - pushing with the good foot on the floor, special
wheelchair enabling rotation of both wheels from one side and adapted control
systems for powered wheelchair - are either inconvenient, tiring, bad for
self-image and/or expensive.
Israeli start-up Perpetuum’s solution, the Baller™, is easy, intuitive, safe and fun
to use. Baller™ is an after-market add-on, which is easily adapted to any standard
wheelchair and is affordable, motivating patients to move around in the clinic and,
afterward, at home.
